Celebrities on twitter: The new star game begins
Well, one of the most significant news in TV presenter Jonathan Ross’s life was the revelation that he is hosting this year’s Bafta awards. Curiously this news never hit in the usual way through the publicist or through a press release. You are right; it came directly from Ross himself, through the Twitter feed.
Those, who are still at their wit’s end for them, Twitter is a micro blogging site where people write short messages. Well for the uninitiated, Twitter has almost revolutionized the concept of blogging whilst introducing a whole new idea of ‘micro blogging’. Here you are limited to just certain numbers of characters to communicate your message. One thing’s for sure Twitter has thrown the challenge to be even more succinct while communicating! It’s now just the KERNEL which matters.
Wait! Ross is just not the only celebrity participating, as Stephen Fry recently revealed he too is a regular user. In fact, in January, Barack Obama was the most popular person with more than 144,000 followers. Ashton Kutcher also uses Twitter and boasts around a million followers. Britney Spears, Amitabh Bachhan, Sashi Tharoor, you name any and you will find him at Twitter.
In fact celebrities are taking their remarks, opinions and even rants at each other to the public stage because finally they have discovered the tweeting game. Gone are the days of paparazzi lurking behind the bushes with the hope to get a shot of celebrity self-sabotage. Well, internet has now made it truly large and has widened the scope, as now the superstars and those seeking superstardom have just chucked out the middle man and publicize their own emotional reactions, opinions and even their reactions to the events of their daily life. And things are pretty much in shape within that 140 characters or less!
Well, the need of keeping off the journalists giving out manipulated information to the celeb’s fan was much needed which has been finally being taken care of as now the celebs who are more willing to disclose certain personal or professional information to their fans, can do so directly. Incredibly true, now fans and the celebs have a common platform TWITTER where they can meet directly instead of those gossip magazines.
Did you say that it’s a much older concept? In fact you are not wrong wholly. Blogs and the networking sites like the MySpace etc have been providing this service for the past couple of years. But as the good things always come in nice packaging so is the Twitter and the enticing fact about tweeting is, its intimacy and the sheer ease of use. You got that correct, it takes just few seconds for a celeb to write a quick update and create ripple.
Wait, when a service is so easy to sign up then it’s common to find people who impersonate the high profile figures. In fact it was not long ago when genuine Twitter user Philip Schofield exposed someone who was posing as his fellow. Still one fact remains constant and that is the number if actual celebs on twitter are still on rise, in spite of the slight initial hiccups.
So, all the girls out there or the boys reading this article, pull up your sleeves to access your favourite stars. Forget about the idea of mailing a fan letter and now all you have to do is to reply arrow and type 140 character messages. Honestly, tweeting with the celebrities will now make your day and will surely give you something to talk and brag about at the coffee break!
